Should the teacher still skip those tasks and proceed to Word Reading, or reassess them?

 Answer

As stated on the G1 TPRI Branching Rules: If the student scores “D” on SCR 4 Word Reading (Screening 4), the teacher has the option to skip the PA and GK sections and continue with the Word Reading tasks. In that case, it is recommended to exclude these tasks by clicking the green squares of the skipped sections. View the TPRI Branching Rules
If they were successful in the Word Reading screening task then it is likely that the student has developed sufficient phonemic awareness and graphophonemic knowledge skills to be able to decode new words. You can certainly still assess the PA and GK tasks at EOY if you want to take a more comprehensive look at the student’s skill proficiency.
