KPM: Is there an overall score that indicates whether a student passes or fails the entire assessment?
Answer
KPM assessments are not designed to produce a single pass/fail score for the entire test.
Instead, KPM evaluates multiple domains of child development to provide a comprehensive view of each student’s strengths and areas for growth. These assessments are intended to inform differentiated instruction and support individualized learning, rather than to determine a binary outcome.
For example, a student may perform below benchmark in areas like executive functioning, rhyme recognition, or letter naming, but that does not mean they have “failed” the assessment. Each domain is assessed independently, and performance is reported by subtest to help educators tailor instruction accordingly.
KPM includes domains such as:
Phonological Awareness (with multiple sub-measures)
Social-Emotional Development
Math
Science
Motor Skills
Because of this holistic approach, there is no overall score that determines whether a student has passed or failed the entire assessment.
Additional information on the validity and reliability of our assessment can be found in the KPM Technical Manual, which is available upon request.
