Should I use an 'I' or a 'U' on the SRU template for rostering?

This article explains what I and U mean in the Single Roster Upload (SRU) template. It also explains when to use each action. You can find more instructions in the Instructions tab of the template.

Prerequisites

Upload the Single Roster template before you begin.

Instructions

  1. Enter I for Insert in the Action column, which is the first column in the SRU template. Use I when you are adding a new student who is not already in CLI Engage.

    • If all required fields are correct, the system creates the student and assigns the student to the correct class.

    • If the class does not exist in CLI Engage, the system creates the class. The class name uses this format: teacher last name, class day type, and class level.

    • If the teacher does not exist in CLI Engage, the system creates the teacher account, sends the registration invitation by email, and assigns the teacher to the class or classes created.

    • If the teacher and class already exist in CLI Engage, the system creates the student and adds the student to the correct class based on the data in the SRU template.

  2. Enter U for Update in the Action column, which is the first column in the SRU template. Use U when you need to update existing student information or class assignments in CLI Engage.

    • If the student already exists in CLI Engage and the Action column shows U, the system updates the student information based on the Student Internal ID.

      • Helpful Tip: If students were created in CLI Engage without Student Internal IDs, do not continue with the SRU template. First, use the Student Template to add the Student Internal ID and update any other student information.
