How To Use The Digital Infant and Toddler Classroom Environment Checklist (CEC)?

The CEC is a 22-item observation tool. The CEC captures the presence and quality level of important areas of the classroom.

It is designed to:

  • Help teachers evaluate their classroom environment

  • Change agent for teachers

  • Tool for coaches to track change over time

  • Provides direction for coaching

  • Supports accountability and meeting expectations

It will evaluate the 6 main delivery observation areas:

  • Arrangement of Indoor Space and Organization

  • Environmental Supports for Cognitive Development

  • Environmental Supports for Language and Literacy Development

  • Environmental Supports for Social and Emotional Development

  • Environmental Supports for Motor Development

  • Outdoor Learning Environment

The CEC uses a 3-point rating scale:

  • 1 – low

  • 2 – moderate

  • 3 – high item

Each rating has a description.
The marked rating indicates that every part of the description is visible in the classroom.
