FAQ: How are students included in Growth Reports if they are not assessed in every wave or if they enroll or leave during the year?
Answer
Each wave's data only includes students who were actually tested in that wave. The Growth Report calculates its percentages and averages based on the students assessed during each specific wave. It does not require a student to be present across all selected waves. Student populations can differ between waves.
For example:
A student who leaves after Wave 1 but returns after Wave 2: That student's scores would be included in the Wave 1 and Wave 3 data but would not appear in Wave 2 since they weren't tested.
A student who arrives for Wave 3 but wasn't in Wave 1: That student would be included in the Wave 3 data but would not appear in Wave 1. They only show up in the wave(s) they were actually assessed.
If you need true matched-student data (only students present in both Wave 1 and Wave 3), the Student Report for Teacher may be more useful since it shows individual student progress across all waves they were tested in.
Please note: If you have a student who has moved away, make sure you mark the student as Inactive in your class roster. If the student's status remains Active on the class roster, they will be included in data reports and calculations, even if the student has unenrolled from the school. The system relies on the class roster status (Active vs. Inactive) to determine which students appear in assessments and reports.
Specifically, an Active student who was never assessed will typically show as "Not Tested" on reports like the Class Completion Report, which can negatively affect completion rates and other metrics for the class and school.
Inactive students remain in the system (and their previously collected data is preserved), but they will not appear in assessments going forward.
