FAQ: Why is it important to assess Wave 2 (MOY)?
FAQ: Why is it important to assess Wave 2 (MOY)?
Answer
A second wave of assessment is generally done at mid-year. This is a crucial time as it will gather very needed data to provide strong intervention for those children identified as at risk and needing more intensive instruction. Mid-year data can really define the strategies and interventions that teachers will use for the remainder of the school year to ensure the students are ready for kindergarten. Ongoing progress monitoring is a part of a high-quality assessment and teaching cycle, wherein teachers use this data to determine appropriate instructional planning that best targets student needs.
