The Kindergarten Dyslexia Screener made available in Wave 3 on TX KEA is used to quickly and efficiently assess all kindergarten students at end of year for possible risk of dyslexia. It is not a diagnostic tool but rather a screener to determine if there are reading difficulties that warrant further referral.

The English dyslexia screener uses measures already included in the Wave 3 set of subtests: *Letter sounds and *Blending. An at risk (red) score is assigned to the dyslexia screening results if both subtest total results are Support (red).

The Spanish dyslexia screener uses measures already included in the Wave 3 set of subtests: *Sonidos de las Letras, *Combinación de Sonidos, and Decodificacion. An at risk (red) score is assigned to the Resultado de la Evaluación de Dislexia if any 2 of the 3 subtests results are Support (red)

  • Receptive tasks are student-selected items. Expressive tasks are teacher-recorded. For receptive and expressive tasks, both must be completed in order to receive an overall score that is calculated to determine risk.

Prerequisites

  •  You must be logged into CLI Engage
  •  Your students must be rostered in CLI Engage
  •  In the SCREENING, PROGRESS MONITORING AND OBSERVATION section of CLI Engage, you must see the assessment. If you do not see this option, then open a help ticket.
  •  You must be assigned to the class, school, or district, depending on the type of desired report and your account type

  5. Once you have completed the two subtests, the dyslexia screener results will provide a total score and color code, green for On Track or red for At Risk.

  6. To assess in Spanish, click the Click to Assess in Spanish button then, click on your class to see the student view with your class roster. Make sure the wave is set to 3.
