Curriculum Review Update

Emerging Curricula

  • the ELP must provide documentation that specified age groups use a developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with early learning guidelines or standards to create lesson plans

  • lesson plans should include learning objectives linked to an early learning domain

    • ex: “bouncy ball” activity should reference the page number from the guidelines for gross motor skills as the domain

  • work with your provider/designated curriculum writer on how to write lesson plans

  • directors/curriculum specialist cannot write lesson plans for the teachers

    • time for lesson planning should be built into their schedule

Questions

  • how do they connect the early learning guidelines to their lesson plans when there are no page numbers

    • they will just need to site where they got their information from

    • Shontel has linked a reference in the Mentor chat on how to cite sources

    • you can also bring any questions to Mel

  • how would we explain to the curriculum coordinator that the teachers must be writing their lesson plans

    • speak with both the coordinator and director and explain the importance of the teachers learning how to do this

    • be sure that you are still making the coordinator feel involved in the curriculum and planning - show them how they can also guide the teachers
