How do I locate and administer the First Grade Dyslexia Screener on TPRI?
The 1st Grade English Dyslexia Screener, available in Wave 2 on TPRI, helps assess all 1st grade students for possible risk of dyslexia before January 31 of the school year. It is not a diagnostic tool. It is a screener that helps identify reading difficulties that may need further referral.
The TPRI 1st Grade Dyslexia Screener uses two screeners from Wave 1: SCR Word Reading and SCR Blending Phonemes. These screeners are first given in Wave 1 and must be given again in Wave 2 to determine whether a student may be at risk for reading difficulty. You must complete both screeners in Wave 2 to receive a total at-risk score. A student receives an At Risk (red) dyslexia screening result only when both screener results are Still Developing (red).

Log in to CLI Engage. On the CLI Engage dashboard, find TPRI 1st Grade.
Select your class to open the student view and see your class roster. Make sure the wave is set to Wave 2.
To assess a student, select the icon next to the student’s name under View Student. The assessment measures will open.
Find the dyslexia screener subtests. They are color-coded blue. Select the Launch button, shown as a triangle, to begin the assessment. You must complete both SCR 2 Word Reading and SCR 3 Blending Phonemes to receive an at-risk score.
After you complete both subtests, review the dyslexia screener results. The results show a total score and a color code: green for D—Developed or red for SD—Still Developing. A red result may show that the student is at risk for reading difficulty.
Give the remaining TPRI Wave 2 subtests for progress monitoring. Use the results to guide important middle-of-year instruction decisions.
